To read the articles, you would think it was just poor French kids who were just pissed. Is it just me or are they trying to hide what is only hinted at in the following two paragraphs...
Ministers are hoping that a mix of factors - worsening weather, the return to classes after half term and the end of Ramadan - will combine soon to bring the wave of copy-cat riots to a halt, but there is deep pessimism about the future. The banlieues have been the scene of regular outbreaks of riots for more than 15 years now - and though each peters out eventually, the next round is always worse.
The flashpoint in the impoverished neighborhoods happened a week ago when two North African teenagers trying to elude police climbed into an electrical substation and were electrocuted. Police deny they were pursuing the teens.
Rach - was just trying to figure out what side of this battle he was rooting for.
